On June 1, 2019, international students of International Education College participated in the Dragon-boat Race held by East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), and through the activity, the international students gained better understanding of Chinese traditional culture and made friends with friends from different countries and regions in the world.

Dragon-boat Race is a traditional custom of Dragon Boat Festival. The custom dates back to Warring States. Qu Yuan, a virtuous court official, jumped with remorse into the river and drown himself, and the people of Chu State rowed quickly hoping to catch up with him and save him. They rowed as quickly as they can to catch up him, but they found he was nowhere to find when they reached Dongting Lake. From then on, people would row a dragon boat to commemorate him during Dragon Boat Festival. International students participated in Dragon-boat Race to appreciate and understand Chinese Culture, and they also took the opportunity to get acquainted with international students from other university and college in Shanghai, so it was a meaningful activity.
